ASTON MARTIN

Aston Martin appeared at the dawn of the automobile industry - at the beginning of the XX century. The company was founded by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Like many automobile enthusiasts of that time, Martin was passionate about car racing. That is why the company's name is derived from his name and... from Aston Hill Climb, situated in Buckinghamshire. There were popular competitions on the high-speed rally to the top. It was in them in 1914 that Lionel won, driving a Singer car.
Robert Bamford was the founder of the company, but left in 1920.
Lionel Martin was an excellent judge of cars and a great sportsman, but he had no commercial talent. By 1925, the company was already going badly, and it for 6000 pounds sterling bought companions Renwick and Bertelli. But Martin's name remained forever in automotive history.

New Stage

In 1936, the company moved away from its narrow sport specialization and began to produce cars for public roads. The Speed model appeared. Although, of course, these were powerful cars, and they were preferred by energetic and extraordinary personalities. The cost of Aston Martin was still quite high, but for buyers it was never crucial.

And again the war. Many productions, including Aston Martin Motors Ltd, were reoriented to production for the front, so instead of cars it began to make parts for aviation enterprises.

The DB  era

A significant milestone in the history of the company was its transition in 1947 to David Brown. The owner's name appears in the logo, and it is his initials that make up the name of the legendary Aston Martin series - DB. In 1959, a DB3 model with an aluminum six-cylinder 3.7-liter engine with two overhead camshafts of 240 hp power appeared. It reached 257 km/h - a real supercar for its time! Then, in 1959, the Aston Marin DB3 was the first to cross the Le Mans finish line.

The company changed owners several times, and in 1987 Ford acquired 75% of the shares. Aston Martin returned to the sport and in 2007 and 2008 became the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans
